The Samsung Lions, currently leading the KBO league after an 11-year drought, face a significant setback with the injury of their ace foreign pitcher, Ariel Jurado. Jurado has been diagnosed with a strained shoulder fascia and inflammation of the infraspinatus muscle, requiring him to be sidelined for approximately six weeks.

Jurado, who established himself as the team's ace last year with 15 wins against 8 losses, had been performing solidly this season. In 17 games during the first half, he recorded 5 wins against 1 loss with a 3.11 ERA. His durability and ability to pitch deep into games were considered his greatest strengths, as evidenced by his league-leading 197.1 innings pitched last season, which included two complete game shutouts and three complete games.

Jurado received a diagnosis of right shoulder fascia strain and infraspinatus inflammation following a recent hospital examination. His return is expected to take six weeks.

The injury comes at a critical juncture as the league heads into its second half. With Jurado expected to return only in late August, the Lions are actively seeking a replacement foreign pitcher. This move comes after the team made a strategic decision to forgo re-signing Jack O'Rourke and instead acquired Chris Flexen, who has extensive Major League Baseball experience, in their pursuit of a championship.

The Lions, holding a slim lead over the LG Twins in the standings, will commence the second half of their season with a four-game home series against the Lotte Giants on July 16.
