Sick boys send emotional messages of support to Croatian footballers

In a heartwarming display of mutual support, young boys battling Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) have sent a message of encouragement to the Croatian national football team, affectionately known as the "Vatreni" (Flames), ahead of their crucial match against Portugal.

This gesture comes as a response to a recent video message of support from Croatian goalkeeper Dominik Livaković. Livaković had sent a personal video to the boys, who are large fans of the "Vatreni," to encourage them in their prolonged struggle to get the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO) to approve access to the Givinostat therapy.

The families of the boys shared that Livaković's words and now the boys' reciprocal message provide them with significant strength. This support is invaluable as they continue their months-long fight for the necessary treatment. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare, inherited condition that leads to the gradual deterioration and weakening of muscles. It typically affects young boys, often showing initial signs like difficulty walking, frequent falls, and trouble standing up.
