Sidoarjo Orders Agencies to Recalculate Local Revenue Potential to Speed Development

Sidoarjo is asking every local government agency to find more room in its own revenue base as budget-efficiency policies threaten to slow development in the regency.

Regent Subandi issued the instruction during a performance-monitoring and evaluation meeting at the Housing, Settlement, Creative Works and Spatial Planning Agency, known as P2CKTR. He said a more accurate calculation of local receipts would help ensure that development programs could proceed at full capacity.

Subandi also urged officials and other stakeholders to tighten spending. “I ask all stakeholders to tighten their belts together so that all the goals of this development can be achieved to the fullest, both physical development and the development of employee skills,” he said.

The regent linked the need for stronger infrastructure and public services to Sidoarjo’s position as an urban area directly bordering Surabaya. He specifically called for licensing services to become easier, faster and more accurate, describing P2CKTR as a frontline agency for residents seeking permits. He said cooperation with the regency’s assistant for general administration and its personnel agency should strengthen the skills of civil servants.

P2CKTR chief M. Bachruni Aryawan said the agency manages strategic services covering administration, spatial planning, building regulation, settlements, domestic wastewater, housing and low-cost rental apartments. He said the agency would improve coordination at every service level and deepen its understanding of new regulations to raise service quality.
