Singer Iliana Zerva attacked by loggerhead sea turtle in Mani: 'Feared it would bite off a piece of my body'

Singer Iliana Zerva experienced a terrifying ordeal while swimming in Limeni, Mani, when she was suddenly attacked by a loggerhead sea turtle. The encounter left her with injuries, including a broken hand, and intense fear.

Speaking on the show "Proini Zoni" on Action 24, Zerva recounted the unexpected assault. She was in the water with three other people when the turtle approached from behind and latched onto her hip. Despite a friend's warning, there was no time to react before the turtle attacked.

We were four people in the sea. Suddenly, without understanding what was happening, the turtle came from behind and grabbed me at the hip.

In an attempt to free herself, Zerva placed her hand in the turtle's mouth, hoping to force it to release her hip. However, this action resulted in more severe injuries. "That's where I sustained the most damage. I have a fracture in my middle finger. I was trying to open its mouth because I was afraid it would bite off a piece of my body. As soon as it let go of my hip, it bit my hand and wouldn't let go," she explained.

Zerva showed the camera the visible bite marks and injuries, describing the incident as one of the most frightening experiences she has ever endured. The attack highlights the unpredictable nature of wildlife encounters, even in seemingly calm waters.
