Sinoptikė Warns: Weather to Worsen First in This Part of Lithuania

Lithuania is set to experience a shift in weather patterns as the anticyclone 'Laurent' moves closer, displacing the recent cyclone responsible for rain and thunderstorms. Sinoptikė E. Latvėnaitė noted that 'Laurent' is expanding with drier, calmer weather, pushing the disruptive cyclone further away.

While Wednesday might still bring brief showers to the eastern and southern parts of the country, Thursday and Friday night are expected to be free of rain. Friday daytime will see isolated light showers and potential thunderstorms, but warm temperatures will persist. The real change is anticipated over the weekend.

The anticyclone, named Laurent, is expanding closer to the Baltic and Lithuania with drier, calmer weather, pushing the cyclone that has brought us various weather troubles in recent days further away.

According to Latvėnaitė, new weather models indicate that a low-pressure system moving from the north, across Scandinavia and the Baltic region, will bring increased moisture to Lithuania. "Unfortunately, for the weekend, the weather models have 'decided' to send us a wetter, and in some places more stormy, cyclone," she warned.

On Saturday, rain is expected to first reach the western and southwestern regions before spreading to a larger part of the country. Significant rainfall is possible in many areas, accompanied by thunderstorms. Wind gusts along the coast and during thunderstorms could reach speeds of 15–18 m/s.

Sunday will see a division in weather across Lithuania. The western regions will experience significantly cooler air, while the southeastern and eastern parts will retain summer warmth for a while longer. Starting from the beginning of next week, cooler temperatures are expected nationwide, with daytime temperatures reaching only 16–19 degrees Celsius, more frequent rain, and strengthening northwesterly winds.
