Sister of alleged Erdoğan assassination team member detained in Turkey

Ayşe Alanur Karatepe, the sister of Burkay Karatepe, an expelled captain implicated in the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey, has been brought before judicial authorities in Muğla. Burkay Karatepe was a member of the assassination team that targeted President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at his hotel during the coup attempt.

Ayşe Alanur Karatepe is accused of providing financial support and aiding her brother's escape. Prosecutors allege that she facilitated this assistance through organizational methods associated with FETÖ, the Gülen movement, which Ankara designates as a terrorist organization.

Following police procedures in Muğla, Ayşe Alanur Karatepe was transferred to the courthouse. The investigation centers on her alleged role in supporting her brother, who was dismissed from the military after the coup attempt and was reportedly part of the unit tasked with eliminating President Erdoğan during the events of July 15, 2016.
