Six Injured in Van Overturn on Mexican Highway; Rescuers Close Road

Six individuals sustained injuries following the overturn of a van on the Amecameca-Tlamacas federal highway, near the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes in Mexico. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene after a passenger reported the incident to the national emergency number.

Elements from the State of Mexico's Secretariat of Public Security, specifically the High Mountain and Agreste Group, were dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, officers found a gray van that had apparently lost control and fallen into a ravine, with six occupants inside. The response also included units from Cruz Roja (Red Cross), Civil Protection (state and municipal), and firefighters from Amecameca.

Rescuers utilized specialized equipment, including stretchers, a rope system, and an electric towing device from Cruz Roja, to safely extract the six injured individuals from the ravine. Civil Protection units then transported the injured to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

During the rescue operations, the highway connecting communities in the State of Mexico with Puebla was temporarily closed to traffic. Following the extraction and removal of the damaged vehicle with the assistance of two tow trucks, the road was reopened. Authorities issued a warning to drivers traversing the area, advising them to exercise extreme caution due to persistent fog that significantly reduces visibility.
