Slovak MP Calls for Parliamentary Discussion on Arts Funding Challenges

A critical discussion is set to take place in the Slovak National Council regarding the operational effectiveness of the Fund for the Support of the Arts (FPU), a crucial body for cultural funding in Slovakia. Independent MP Roman Malatinec has convened this meeting, bringing together approximately thirty representatives from the cultural sector to address pressing issues that threaten the vibrancy of Slovak arts and heritage.

The uncertainty stemming from these funding challenges extends beyond the arts community, impacting the tourism sector and potentially diminishing the economic opportunities for small municipalities that often rely on cultural events as a primary source of income and engagement.

Malatinec emphasized that the discussion aims to create a platform for constructive dialogue between members of parliament and representatives from both state-funded and independent cultural institutions.
