Slovenia Appoints New State Secretaries at Economy and Environment Ministries

Slovenia's government has appointed two new state secretaries to key ministries. Leon Korošec has been named the third state secretary at the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, and Sport, while Iztok Slatinšek will serve as the second state secretary at the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.

Korošec joins the Ministry of Economy with extensive international business experience. He boasts 25 years in the global business arena, with more than 15 of those spent in leadership positions within the Elan group. In his roles as director of the sports division and vice president of the group, he managed operations generating approximately 70 million euros in revenue and overseeing 400 employees. His responsibilities included managing companies in the United States, Canada, Japan, and Germany. Korošec's expertise spans economics, international business, and tourism. He has also been active in international industry associations, served on the board of the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce, and contributed to tourism-related expert bodies, in addition to being a guest lecturer at higher education institutions.

Slatinšek brings a wealth of experience in geodesy, spatial management, and environmental administration to the Ministry of Environment. With 40 years in the field, his career includes significant leadership roles such as the Director General of the Slovenian Environment Agency (Arso) and Director General of the Directorate for the Environment at the Ministry of Environment. His work has involved the development of modern geoinformation systems, environmental monitoring, and water resource management. He has also served as a director and authorized engineer in the field of geodesy.

Korošec will be the third state secretary under Minister Anže Logar, joining Katja Koren and Štefan Kušar, who were appointed earlier. Slatinšek will be the second state secretary at the Ministry of Environment, working alongside Peter Lovšin, under Minister Polona Rifelj.
