Slovenia Eyes Third Place in European Volleyball Championship Against Hungary

The Slovenian women's national volleyball team is set to play its final preliminary match of the European Championship in Turkey today against Hungary. The team aims to secure third place in Group A with a victory, which would position them for a potentially easier opponent in the round of 16.

To overtake Germany for third place, Slovenia needs a win or a 3-2 loss. Statistics favor Slovenia, as they have won all five official matches against Hungary. Furthermore, Slovenia's performance in the tournament positions them as clear favorites, having already defeated Germany and Latvia, while Hungary has lost all their matches.

However, the team must remain cautious. Slovenian captain Saša Planinšec acknowledged that the team has experienced difficult moments during the championship. "We want to improve the impression from the last two games," Planinšec stated. "Hungary is a very combative team with a very strong player in the opposite hitter position. Our main goal will be to stop her, but most importantly, for our game to be right again."

Coach Alessandro Orefice also emphasized the importance of preparation, noting Hungary's individual quality, particularly their opposite hitter Anett Nemeth, who plays at a high level in Italy. "They are a team that fights on the court," Orefice said. "I think this will be a match where the block and defense will prevail, and we can cause them trouble with our serve."

Orefice stressed the need for energy, fewer errors than in the previous match, and capitalizing on every opportunity from the first set. Securing a win in this final group game is crucial for Slovenia's motivation and positioning for the knockout stage of the tournament.
