Slovenia Reviews Public Feedback on National Demographic Fund

Slovenia's Ministry of Finance is reviewing feedback from over 40 stakeholders on its proposed national demographic fund. The public consultation, which concluded recently, highlighted concerns regarding the fund's governance and financial structure.

Stakeholders primarily focused on strengthening measures to prevent conflicts of interest, ensuring the integrity and professionalism of the fund's management, and clarifying the composition and appointment processes for its governing bodies. Questions were also raised about the sources of financing for the fund.

The ministry stated that all received responses and proposals will be thoroughly examined, and potential amendments to the draft law will be prepared. The proposal for the law, which is similar to one from 2021, aims to concentrate assets and generate revenue for current and future pensioners. It also intends to support family policy measures and elder care, with the fund projected to manage 18 billion euros in assets.

The economic and social council will also continue discussions on the proposed legislation. The fund's stated purpose is to manage assets, provide income for pensioners, and implement family and elder care policies.
