Slovenian Motorway Traffic Restrictions Easing for School Return, Ministry Demands More

As Slovenia's summer holidays conclude, drivers are experiencing a return of traffic congestion, exacerbated by numerous construction sites along the nation's motorways. In response, Dars, the national motorways company, is set to ease restrictions on a key section, though the Ministry of Infrastructure is pressing for swifter progress elsewhere.

Dars announced that traffic will resume on two lanes in each direction on the Dramlje–Slovenske Konjice section by August 31, aligning with previous forecasts. This measure aims to alleviate the increased traffic flow as the holiday period ends and commuters return to work and school.

However, the Ministry of Infrastructure has expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on other motorway sections. While acknowledging Dars's efforts on the Dramlje–Slovenske Konjice stretch, the ministry stated it is "not satisfied with the progress of work on other sections to the extent we would wish."

Currently, major traffic jams are forming at three primary locations. The Slovenske Konjice and Dramlje area is particularly affected, with traffic being rerouted onto the Ljubljana-bound carriageway, allowing only one lane in each direction while the Maribor-bound carriageway remains closed. This situation is causing notable delays, especially during weekdays.
