Slovenian Officials Charged for Withholding Employee Social Security Contributions

Maribor criminal investigators have concluded an investigation into alleged violations of workers' fundamental rights, leading to criminal charges against three responsible individuals from a company in the Ptuj region. The investigation, initiated following a report from the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (Furs), focused on the deliberate non-payment of social security contributions for employees.

According to the charges filed with the District State Prosecutor's Office, the accused allegedly failed to pay social security contributions for their employees from December 2022 through March 2025. Although the company submitted the required payroll reports (REK-O forms) to the tax authority during this period, the calculated contributions for social security and employee benefits were not paid. This occurred even though the company reportedly possessed the necessary funds and continued to meet other financial obligations.

As a result of these actions, a considerable number of employees were financially harmed. The total amount of unpaid social security contributions is estimated to be at least 294,783.28 euros. The case highlights a serious breach of labor laws, where the company's management is accused of knowingly neglecting their legal responsibilities towards their workforce, despite having the financial capacity to meet these obligations.
