Socrates Famellos has announced his independence from the SYRIZA parliamentary group, a move that was not entirely unexpected given recent political developments. Famellos officially informed the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament, Nikitas Kaklamanis, of his decision following a meeting on Wednesday.

I informed the Speaker of Parliament of my independence from the SYRIZA PG. This is a very difficult decision, because my entire life is connected with organized action on the Left, in Synaspismos and in SYRIZA PG, since their founding. However, what has been happening in recent days does not correspond to the values of the Left.

Famellos's departure follows his earlier exit from the presidency of SYRIZA, signaling a clear divergence from the party's current direction. His absence from recent parliamentary group meetings and stated disagreements with decisions made by the party leadership had fueled speculation about his impending move.
