Trump says Netanyahu won't be arrested in U.S., responding to NYC mayor

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "will not be arrested in any way" while in the United States. Trump made this declaration on his social media platform, Truth Social, in response to comments made by the Mayor of New York City regarding the potential for Netanyahu's arrest.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams had previously stated in an interview with The New York Times that legal avenues were being explored to arrest the Israeli prime minister during his expected visit for the UN General Assembly in September. Adams characterized Netanyahu as a "war criminal" against whom the International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued charges.

Trump did not directly name the mayor in his post but expressed his appreciation for Netanyahu's role in the war against Iran. Netanyahu traditionally travels to New York in September for the UN General Assembly. The ICC has issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu concerning alleged war crimes during the conflict in Gaza, allegations that Israel vehemently denies, rejecting the court's jurisdiction and the charges themselves.
