Soldier posthumously promoted after dying while saving comrade from landslide

A tragic incident during the construction of a defense facility in Bach Long Vi special zone, Hai Phong City, has resulted in the death of Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh. While carrying out their duties, soldiers from the 17th Engineering Company, part of the Command of the Military Region 3, were caught in a landslide. The incident occurred around 10:20 AM on August 7.

As rocks and soil began to slide, Private Nguyen Binh Nguyen found himself in a dangerous area. Without hesitation, Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh rushed to his comrade's aid, pushing Nguyen out of the path of the landslide. Immediately following the event, unit members initiated rescue efforts, extracting both soldiers from the debris and transporting them to the Bach Long Vi special zone medical center for urgent care.

Despite the swift medical attention, Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh succumbed to his severe injuries at 10:55 AM the same day. Private Nguyen Binh Nguyen sustained injuries but received timely treatment and is reported to be conscious and under continued observation at the medical center.

In recognition of his heroic act of saving a fellow soldier in a perilous situation, the Hai Phong City Military Command decided to posthumously promote Cao Tuan Anh from corporal to sergeant. The Central Committee of the Youth Union also awarded him a posthumous commendation on August 8 for his "brave action in saving a comrade in a life-threatening situation."

Sergeant Cao Tuan Anh, born October 21, 2006, hailed from Vinh Thinh commune, Hai Phong City. He enlisted in February 2025. His sacrifice is seen as a profound demonstration of camaraderie, responsibility, courage, and the noble qualities of a revolutionary soldier, embodying the image of the new era "Uncle Ho's Soldiers."
