Soldiers foil abduction, rescue kidnap victims in Zamfara, Katsina operations

Nigerian troops have successfully rescued kidnapped victims and thwarted attempted abductions in separate operations across Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states. The military also arrested individuals suspected of supplying logistics to terrorist groups, seizing 10 motorcycles.

The prompt intervention of the troops forced the terrorists to abandon the operation and flee, leading to the successful rescue of several residents. Troops subsequently dominated the general area to forestall any further threat.

The operations, conducted on July 19 and 20 as part of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, aimed to dismantle terrorist networks and disrupt criminal activities in the North-West region. In Zamfara State, troops responded to a distress call in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, forcing terrorists to abandon an abduction attempt and flee, thereby rescuing several residents.

In Katsina State, troops on patrol in Faskari Local Government Area rescued three victims who had escaped from a terrorist hideout. These individuals had been abducted on July 14 while working on farms in Zamfara State. The rescued victims have been handed over for reunification with their families.

Also, on 19 July 2026, troops intercepted a vehicle conveying ten motorcycles suspected to be destined for terrorist elements during a routine stop-and-search operation in Kebbi State. Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects believed to have been sent to receive the motorcycles on behalf of a known terrorist collaborator.

Further operations in Kebbi State led to the interception of a vehicle carrying ten motorcycles suspected of being destined for terrorist elements. Four additional suspects, believed to be collaborators, were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation. The military commended the troops for their professionalism and vigilance, urging the public to continue providing credible information and remain vigilant.
