Soldiers rescue 25 kidnapped victims in Katsina and Zamfara

Nigerian troops rescued 25 kidnapped civilians during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara states, according to the military.

In Katsina, soldiers conducting a night patrol near Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area encountered terrorists. The militants fled into nearby bushes after troops engaged them, and soldiers followed their escape routes to recover two people abducted along the Dandume-Damari Road. Troops also recovered two motorcycles reportedly belonging to the fleeing attackers.

In Zamfara, soldiers from Sector 2 rescued 23 civilians during a fighting patrol outside Wuya Town in Anka Local Government Area. The group consisted of three males and 20 females. Military officials said preliminary questioning indicated that the victims had been abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and held for about three weeks.

The victims were evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing. Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the task force’s media information officer, said the operations showed troops’ determination to protect civilians and disrupt terrorist activity across northwestern Nigeria.
