Soledad Núñez presents five governing strategies for Asunción

Opposition candidate Soledad Núñez has presented her plan to govern Asunción, placing a “municipality without corruption” at its center. She said the proposal includes five broad strategies, more specific policy lines and 500 solutions aimed at improving the Paraguayan capital.

The five main priorities are titled: “Asunción gets organized,” “Asunción gets clean,” “Asunción moves,” “Asunción takes care,” and “Asunción that produces.” Núñez said the plan would be implemented if she reaches City Hall after the October 4 election.

The day of the election, we will choose whether to continue along the same path that brought us here, or whether to rewrite Asunción’s history.

Her specific strategies focus on urban planning, coastal management, professionalizing the municipal workforce, organizing municipal finances and recovering municipal assets. She said the 500 solutions are intended to help the city reach its 500th anniversary in a cleaner, more orderly and more citizen-friendly condition.

Núñez framed the election as a choice between continuing along the path that brought Asunción to its current state and rewriting the city’s history. She accused her rival, Camilo Pérez of the Colorado Party’s Honor Colorado movement, of benefiting from parallel funds and opaque administration. National authorities, senators, lawmakers and candidates for the Asunción council attended the presentation.
