Sombr charms with Belgian flag and his big hit twice in a row at Pukkelpop

American singer-songwriter Sombr, born Shane Michael Boose, made his debut at Belgium's Pukkelpop festival, captivating a large and enthusiastic audience on the Main Stage. This marked his second performance in Belgium within months, following a show at the AB earlier in the spring.

Sombr, who has achieved fame through TikTok, crafts pop music often tinged with a melancholic message. Pukkelpop described him as the "rising star of indie pop in the category of heartbreak." His musical style incorporates pop with elements of electric guitar and disco vibes.

His energetic stage presence, drawing comparisons to figures like Damiano David of Måneskin and Freddie Mercury of Queen, was evident as he dramatically engaged with the audience. Dressed in a black lace blouse, a style shared by other festival performers, Sombr commanded the stage. He interacted directly with the cameras, a common tactic for artists who found fame on social media, aiming to connect with viewers.

The set included the crowd-pleaser 'Homewrecker,' performed with Sombr on guitar, and the ballad 'My body isn't ready.' The latter song, addressing body image and self-acceptance, clearly resonated with the young audience. Sombr offered words of reassurance, stating, "Everyone who ever looks in the mirror and isn't always happy with what they see: know that you are okay. Everyone is allowed to be here."
