Some 560,000 visit Han River pools this summer, with one in four arriving at night

Seoul’s Han River pools drew 556,981 visitors this summer, and roughly one in four came after dark.

The six facilities operated for 73 days from June 19 to Aug. 30. They included the pools at Yeouido and Ttukseom and water parks at Jamsil, Nanji, Yanghwa and Gwangnaru.

Yeouido recorded the highest attendance, with 214,745 visitors, followed by Ttukseom with 182,581. Jamsil drew 56,748, Nanji 46,367, Gwangnaru 38,813 and Yanghwa 17,727.

The city extended hours until 10 p.m. and introduced DJ sets and busking performances. Visitor numbers at Yeouido and Ttukseom rose 58% and 36%, respectively, from the previous year. Seoul says it will use the demand for “Han River nights” to expand evening openings and performance and cultural programmes next year, with the goal of making the pools hubs of the night-time economy.
