Somos MX Coordinator Joins PAN, Seeks La Paz Mayoral Candidacy

María Azucena Meza Gómez, formerly the state coordinator for Somos MX in Baja California Sur, has officially joined the National Action Party (PAN). The announcement was made at the PAN's state headquarters in La Paz, where she declared her intention to run for the municipal presidency of La Paz in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Meza Gómez stated that she is embarking on a "new political stage" and is bringing with her a team of citizens, community representatives, and members from Somos MX's district coordinations and councils. She aims to be a "factor of unity" within and outside the PAN, proposing her project as an alternative for the municipality. Key issues she highlighted for La Paz include the water crisis, public services, urban growth, rural communities, and public security. Her team will also support former senator Francisco "Pancho" Pelayo in his bid for the gubernatorial candidacy.

"We don't come to ask for a seat. We arrive with work, organization, territory, experience, and causes," Meza Gómez declared. Her incorporation into the PAN is seen as a significant move in the state's political landscape, particularly as she seeks to address pressing local challenges.

Following her announcement, Somos MX BCS issued a statement indicating that it would begin formal disaffiliation procedures for members who have joined other political projects. The organization referenced its statutes, which stipulate that individuals in leadership positions cannot seek elected office simultaneously and that candidacies must undergo internal evaluation processes. Somos MX emphasized its commitment to congruency with its rules and respecting individuals' rights to seek political representation elsewhere, while upholding its internal procedures.
