Son hacks 60-year-old mother to death in Ondo, police arrest suspect

Ondo State Police have apprehended a 23-year-old man, Samuel Akoade, suspected of fatally attacking his 60-year-old mother with a machete. The tragic event took place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the victim's residence in the Powerline area of Ore, within the Odigbo Local Government Area.

Residents were reportedly alarmed after the woman, identified as Olufunke Amoo, was discovered deceased. A police source indicated that the victim had sustained severe machete wounds, leading to her death. Samuel allegedly used a cutlass in the attack, though the motive behind the alleged killing remains unclear.

Officers from the Ore Division responded to the scene, securing the area and recovering a machete believed to be the murder weapon. They also documented the crime scene. The suspect had reportedly fled before police arrived but was apprehended later through sustained efforts by the operatives.

Samuel Akoade is currently in police custody. The body of the deceased has been taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ore. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
