South Jakarta Police Investigate Air Guns, Firearm Found in School Room

South Jakarta police are investigating the discovery of a cache of weapons, including hundreds of air guns and a firearm, found in a locked room at a school in Kebayoran Lama. The discovery prompted a public report on July 15, leading to both a public and an internal police report.

The South Jakarta Metropolitan Police received a report from the public regarding the discovery of weapons, consisting of a firearm and air guns, stored in a room belonging to the school foundation.

According to police spokesperson Adjunct Commissioner Joko Adiwibowo, the weapons were found in a room belonging to the school foundation. The legal counsel for the individual who reported the find, Hermawanto, stated that the weapons were discovered when school administrators sought to use rooms that had been locked for an extended period. These rooms were previously used by an individual who also served as an administrator for the foundation, which had ties to PT Lokta Karya Perbakin. Hermawanto emphasized that the presence of these weapons posed a danger to the school's children.

We filed a report because the presence of these weapons poses a danger to the children at the school.

However, Alhadid Endar Putra, President Director of PT Lokta Karya Perbakin, asserted that all weapons were legally licensed, as his company operates in the sport shooting weapons business. He confirmed the single firearm was also properly licensed and was found without ammunition or a magazine. Putra also stated that storing weapons in locked, monitored locations is not prohibited by regulations, provided they are not explosives.
