Riding a bicycle and calling "HELP" 90 times... habitual false reporter finally caught

Police have apprehended a man who repeatedly made false emergency calls, often just saying "HELP" before hanging up. Over several months, the suspect allegedly made close to 100 false reports across Seoul.

Authorities stated that the man, identified as A 씨, rode a bicycle through areas including Jongno, Jung-gu, and Mapo districts in Seoul. From April onwards, he repeatedly called 112, the emergency number, uttering only "HELP" before disconnecting. This pattern resulted in approximately 90 false reports in the Jongno and Jung-gu areas alone, with an additional 24 in Mapo.

Investigators analyzed the 신고자의 (caller's) movement patterns and speed. They noted that the pace was too fast for walking but too slow for a vehicle, leading them to deduce that the suspect was likely using a bicycle. This analysis helped police identify A 씨 as the individual responsible for the repeated false alarms.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's official YouTube channel, 'Seoul Police,' released a video detailing the case, titled 'Who is the caller who tries to shake off the police by saying HELP, HELP?' The video explained how the police, alerted by colleagues who recognized the caller from previous false reports, were able to apprehend him.
