South Korea Considers Joining CPTPP to Boost Exports

South Korea is actively considering joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), a move that could significantly boost its trade relations and economic growth. Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Kim Gwan-jung, announced the review on April 4, highlighting the potential for securing new markets in regions like ASEAN and Mexico. This strategic consideration is also aimed at accelerating the export of popular K-content and consumer goods. The government plans to engage in a thorough consultation process, ensuring that the opinions of key stakeholders, including the agricultural and fisheries sectors and the National Assembly, are fully considered before any decision is made. This inclusive approach aims to address potential concerns and build consensus around the CPTPP accession.
