South Korea is bracing for continued high temperatures as a heatwave advisory remains in effect nationwide, even after the traditional end of summer, Chuseok. Daytime highs are forecast to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius on Monday, with perceived temperatures potentially hitting 35 degrees in some areas. The Korea Meteorological Administration predicts scattered showers, possibly with gusts of wind and thunder, particularly in southern regions. While these downpours may offer brief relief, the high humidity following the rain will likely maintain muggy conditions. Overnight temperatures are also expected to remain high, with some areas experiencing tropical nights. The forecast indicates morning lows between 22-26 degrees Celsius and afternoon highs between 31-36 degrees Celsius across the country. Specific cities like Seoul are expected to see highs of 33 degrees, while Daegu and Gwangju could reach 35 degrees. The precipitation is expected mainly in the afternoon in inland areas of Chungnam and northern Jeolla provinces, as well as Jeju Island, with amounts ranging from 5 to 50 millimeters. Similar showers are forecast for other inland regions later in the day. Air quality is expected to be good to normal across the country.
