South Korea's 'baby panda' turns 50 days old, weight 13 times birth weight

Everland, a South Korean theme park, has shared an update on its youngest resident: a baby giant panda cub that has reached 50 days old. Born on June 3rd to parents Ai Bao and Le Bao, this cub is the fourth giant panda born in South Korea through natural breeding and is affectionately known as "Fu Bao's younger sibling."

The cub is thriving under the care of its mother, Ai Bao, and the dedicated zookeepers. It has reached a healthy weight of 2.3 kilograms, a significant increase from its birth weight of 171 grams, marking a 13-fold growth. The cub has also opened both of its eyes and is gaining strength, beginning to lift its head and even crawl, showing early signs of its panda characteristics. Its distinctive black and white markings are becoming more prominent as its baby fur sheds.

This new addition joins the panda family, which includes Fu Bao and the twins Rui Bao and Hui Bao. The park's zookeeping team, along with experts from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, are providing close monitoring and care to ensure the cub's continued healthy development.

Public interest in the new cub is high, with Everland holding a naming contest that garnered over 10,000 submissions. The park is currently reviewing the submitted names to select a final choice, which will be announced soon. Zookeeper Kang Cheol-won expressed gratitude for the care provided by Ai Bao and the staff, asking for continued public support and interest in the cub's growth.
