South Korea's U-17 girls' volleyball team advances to Round of 16 with 5-0 record

The South Korean U-17 women's national volleyball team has achieved a perfect record in the group stage of the 2026 FIVB U-17 Girls' World Championship, winning all five matches.

Under the guidance of head coach Lee Seung-yeo, the team secured their spot in the Round of 16 by defeating Algeria in straight sets (25-10, 25-17, 25-18) in their final Group D match held in Los Andes, Chile. This victory followed earlier wins against Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Italy, and the Dominican Republic.

Despite resting key player Son Seo-yeon for part of the match against Algeria, the team, composed of middle and high school athletes, demonstrated strong performance. Players like Jang Su-in, Moon Tiara, and Eo Min-seo contributed significantly to the decisive win.

Son Seo-yeon, a standout player from Seonmyeong Girls' High School, currently leads the tournament in scoring with an impressive 97 points accumulated throughout the group stage. The team is set to compete for a spot in the quarterfinals against the fourth-place finisher from Group B on the morning of August 13th (Korea time).
