South Korean 20s and 30s Seek Romance for Summer Vacation Travel

As the summer vacation season approaches, a significant portion of South Korea's 20- and 30-somethings are expressing a heightened desire for romantic relationships. A recent survey conducted by the social dating app WIPPY revealed that 63.7% of its male and female users aged 20-30 feel a stronger urge to date during this period.

The primary driver behind this increased romantic inclination is the wish to share vacation experiences. A substantial 80.6% of respondents indicated that they would prefer to have someone to travel or go on vacation with. This desire for companionship during leisure time is further emphasized by the fact that 49.9% of participants identified "not having someone to travel with" as the moment they feel the strongest urge to date.

While the prospect of a summer romance is appealing, practical plans remain uncertain for many. Nearly half of the respondents (45%) have not yet finalized their vacation plans, and a considerable 34.1% anticipate spending the break alone. Nevertheless, the intention to find new connections is high, with 92.5% planning to use dating apps to facilitate meetings during the holiday season.

Data from WIPPY's "Neighborhood Promise" feature, which helps users find companions for real-time activities, shows a 31.8% increase in daily users by late July compared to the winter low. The number of related posts in July also reached its highest point this year, underscoring the seasonal surge in social activity. When asked about their ideal travel destination with a partner, Japan emerged as the top choice for 54.2% of respondents, followed by domestic destinations like Jeju Island (40.8%) and Gangwon Province/Busan (37.6%). The popularity of Japan is attributed to its proximity and frequent flight options, aligning with a recent trend of increased demand for short-haul international travel among young adults.
