South Korean lawmaker alleges widespread voter data manipulation in last presidential election

Joo Jin-woo, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, held an emergency press conference on Tuesday, alleging that voter turnout data was intentionally manipulated in 109 polling stations during last year's presidential election. He presented evidence suggesting that voter numbers were artificially inflated or misrepresented in the electronic records.

According to Joo, some polling stations recorded increases in voter numbers in increments of 100 per hour. He cited an example in Seoul's Seodaemun-gu, where three polling stations allegedly saw continuous hourly increases of 100 or 200 voters for 11 hours. Another instance in Changwon, Gyeongsang Province, reportedly showed an exact increase of 100 voters every hour for five consecutive hours. Joo claimed that 90 polling stations experienced periods where the number of voters did not increase at all for three hours, despite a significant surge of 259 voters in one hour followed by only two voters in the subsequent three hours in Osan, Gyeonggi Province.

He demanded that the election commission immediately cease any actions that could be construed as tampering with evidence, stating, "The subject of an investigation should not destroy evidence."

Furthermore, Joo proposed that the National Assembly's special committee, which is currently pushing for a recount of 2.47 million ballots stored at the Jamsil counting center, should instead prioritize a joint re-verification of the servers. He argued that given the alleged evidence of server manipulation in the last presidential election, a thorough server inspection should be the immediate focus for both ruling and opposition parties.
