South Korean President asked me to open dialogue with North Korea: Prabowo

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto revealed that South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung requested his assistance in opening a dialogue with North Korea. During a recent visit to Seoul, President Lee asked Prabowo if he could visit Pyongyang to initiate discussions between the two Koreas.

Prabowo stated he felt honored by the request and affirmed his willingness to serve as a mediator. He linked this potential role to Indonesia's long-standing foreign policy principle of being "active and free." This approach, he noted, allows Indonesia to foster positive relationships with diverse global actors.

He elaborated that Indonesia maintains strong ties with countries like the United States, while also nurturing good relations with China and Russia. Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia is perceived as having no vested interest in interfering in the domestic affairs of any nation, a principle the country strictly adheres to.

In the current global climate, characterized by uncertainty and widespread conflicts, Prabowo stressed the increasing relevance of Indonesia's active and free foreign policy. He acknowledged that while wars may occur in other regions, they inevitably have ripple effects that can impact Indonesia, underscoring the interconnectedness of global events.
