South Korean President Lee Inspects C-390 Transport Aircraft Upon Arrival in Brazil

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung arrived in Brazilia on Monday for a state visit, marking a significant step in defense cooperation. Upon arrival at the Brasilia Air Force Base, Lee was greeted by Brazilian officials and immediately inspected the C-390 transport aircraft. This aircraft, manufactured by Brazil's Embraer, is slated for delivery to the South Korean Air Force, with the first of three units expected by December and all three by next December, under an 883 billion won contract.

"This is a meaningful start to defense cooperation with Brazil," Lee stated, highlighting the significance of the visit. Brazilian officials expressed pride in partnering with South Korea, calling it their most important partner in Asia. President Lee is in Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with a packed schedule including a state welcoming ceremony, summit talks, MOU signings, and a joint press conference.

The presidential visit extends beyond Brazil, with planned stops in Chile and Argentina. South Korea aims to bolster trade, investment, and market exploration with these key South American economic powerhouses. Brazil is noted for its vast rare earth reserves and top global rankings in coffee, sugar, and chicken exports. Chile leads in copper and lithium reserves, while Argentina holds significant shale gas reserves. The trip is part of a broader diplomatic effort to strengthen ties in the region.
