South Korean Women's Youth Handball Team Aims for Podium Finish at World Championship

South Korea's women's youth handball team is setting its sights on a podium finish at the 11th International Handball Federation (IHF) Women's Youth World Championship. The team departed for Romania, where the tournament runs from July 29 to August 9, after a two-week training camp to hone their skills and teamwork.

Under the guidance of coach Park Jeong-jin, the 18-member squad, all high school students, will compete in Group B of the preliminary round. Their opening match is scheduled for July 29 against Denmark, followed by games against the Czech Republic on July 31 and Mexico on August 1. The top two teams from each preliminary group will advance to the main round.

This championship holds particular significance for South Korean handball. In the 2022 edition held in North Macedonia, the team achieved a historic victory, becoming the first non-European country to win the Women's Youth World Championship. This triumph marked a new milestone in women's handball history.

Coach Park expressed confidence in his team's preparation, stating, "As this is a stage to compete against world-class teams, we will do our best to allow the players to fully display their skills that they have prepared." He added, "We will show the competitiveness of Korean handball."
