South Sulawesi Drives Healthcare Transformation to Village Level

The Provincial Government of South Sulawesi is spearheading a significant transformation in its healthcare system, aiming to extend quality health services directly to the village level through the implementation of the Primary Service Integration (ILP) program. This initiative, launched with a kick-off event in Maros Regency, signifies a crucial step towards strengthening primary healthcare across the region.

According to the Head of the South Sulawesi Health Office, Evi Mustikawati Arifin, the ILP program is an integral part of the national health system transformation. Its core objective is to bolster primary healthcare services by emphasizing promotive and preventive measures. This approach is designed to enhance the overall health of the community by adopting a life-cycle perspective and bringing services closer to villages and families, ensuring accessibility and responsiveness.

Maros Regency has been selected as a national pilot project for ILP since 2022. The implementation in this region has already shown promising results, improving the achievement of minimal service standards and fostering stronger collaboration among various sectors, including village governments, the PKK (Family Welfare Movement), and health cadres. This success serves as a model for other regions within South Sulawesi.

Looking ahead, the provincial government plans to further enhance the ILP program by moving towards an ILP+ (Integrated Primary Services Plus) model. This advanced approach will offer more comprehensive and integrated services across different programs and sectors, proactively reaching out to communities. The success of ILP+ hinges on synergistic efforts, including enhancing the capacity of healthcare workers, improving infrastructure, and optimizing the role of health cadres. The utilization of data-driven health dashboards is also being promoted to support quick, accurate, and evidence-based decision-making from the village to the regency level, ultimately aiming to significantly improve the quality of life for the people of South Sulawesi.
