Southern cyclone to bring heavy rain, strong winds to Lithuania

Lithuania is bracing for a southern cyclone that is set to bring significant weather changes, including heavy rainfall and strong winds, particularly affecting the western and southwestern parts of the country. Meteorologist Gytis Valaika noted that some areas could experience over 15 mm of rain within a 12-hour period.

The approaching cyclone is also expected to lower temperatures, with forecasts suggesting that many regions will not exceed 20°C, leading to what Valaika described as an "Icelandic summer." However, there is a prospect of weather improvement towards a warmer and drier pattern by the weekend.

The Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT) has issued warnings for dangerous weather phenomena across all of Lithuania. Thunderstorms are possible in all counties, with recommendations to stay indoors and disconnect appliances during lightning. Heavy rain is anticipated in eight counties, prompting advice for drivers to exercise caution due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. Klaipėda county is also expected to experience strong winds, with gusts potentially reaching 15-18 m/s on Monday and up to 15-20 m/s on Tuesday, leading to warnings about securing outdoor items and avoiding parking near trees.
