Southern Military Cadet School Welcomes 240 Students in Its First Academic Year

Vietnam’s Southern Military Cadet School has begun its first academic year with 240 students selected from ethnic-minority families, families with revolutionary service and households facing exceptional hardship.

The school opened on Sept. 5 in Cu Chi, Ho Chi Minh City, with three sixth-grade classes and three 10th-grade classes. Lieutenant General Le Xuan The, commander of Military Region 7, attended the ceremony and delivered guidance.

Le Xuan The said the school should combine general education with training in ethics, tradition, civic awareness, life skills, discipline, physical development and the use of science and technology. He called for a disciplined, healthy and humane educational environment, as well as teaching methods suited to different groups of students.

He also urged the school to help students from difficult backgrounds, especially ethnic-minority communities, adapt quickly, gain confidence and develop their abilities. The school is expected to expand the use of information technology, digital transformation and artificial intelligence in teaching and management.

The commander said improving educational quality would be the school’s central task. The broader aim, he said, was to develop students’ character, knowledge, physical strength and practical skills, while building their ability to study independently, adapt and innovate.
