Southwestern France Wildfires: TGV Trains South of Bordeaux Remain Canceled Thursday, SNCF Confirms

Travelers heading to or from southwestern France face continued disruption as the national railway company SNCF announced the extension of TGV train cancellations south of Bordeaux through Thursday. The measure, in place since Sunday, is a direct consequence of the severe wildfires raging in the region.

All TGV services originating from Paris will now terminate in Bordeaux. The only exceptions are trains bound for Toulouse. This decision, "given the exceptional situation caused by the fires," significantly impacts travel plans for many. Specifically, trains departing from Bordeaux to Arcachon, Hendaye, and Tarbes via Dax are canceled. Similarly, inbound trains from Hendaye and Tarbes via Dax to Bordeaux are also suspended. The overnight Paris-Tarbes train will not run.

To partially mitigate the disruption, two round-trip services between Paris and Tarbes, routed via Toulouse, have been maintained. However, SNCF strongly recommends that passengers postpone any planned train travel to the affected zones until at least Friday, July 31. The railway company's advice underscores the severity of the ongoing crisis, which has seen a massive wildfire consume 42,000 hectares in Gironde over the past week.
