SpaceX plans massive Louisiana spaceport with $100 billion investment

SpaceX is embarking on an ambitious project to construct its most extensive rocket launch facility to date in southern Louisiana, branded as Starbase Louisiana. The company, led by Elon Musk, has committed to an investment exceeding $100 billion for this venture. Construction is scheduled to commence in 2027, with the inaugural Starship launch anticipated in 2029. SpaceX envisions Starbase Louisiana as a pivotal hub capable of supporting thousands of Starship flights annually. These missions are planned to reach Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and destinations further afield. The project promises significant economic benefits for the region, with SpaceX aiming to generate over 3,000 new jobs. The company intends to prioritize hiring from local communities, leveraging the extensive experience of Louisiana's workforce in developing complex infrastructure within their unique environment. Starbase Louisiana is designed to be a self-sustaining spaceport. Its comprehensive facilities will include propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing infrastructure, and an airport. SpaceX publicly thanked Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry for his support in realizing this "audacious project."
