Spain's Artistic Swimmers Miss Podium at European Championships

Spain's artistic swimming team experienced a bittersweet start to the European Championships in Paris, with promising performances overshadowed by near misses and penalties. Dennis González, a key Spanish competitor, came agonizingly close to a medal in the men's solo technical final, ultimately securing fourth place.

González's routine, set to Billie Eilish's "Lovely," earned high artistic marks, but it wasn't enough to overcome strong performances from rivals. He finished just four-tenths of a point behind the bronze medalist, Russian debutant Zakhar Trofimov. The Italian Filippo Pelati took silver, while Great Britain's Ranjuo Tomblin claimed gold.

Adding to the mixed fortunes, the women's duet of Iris Tió and Lilou Lluis finished eighth in their technical event. Despite receiving the highest artistic impression score in the final, a penalty during a challenging hybrid element in their routine, choreographed to Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," relegated them down the rankings. Several other duets, including those from France, the Neutral Athletes team (featuring returning Russian swimmers), and Greece, surpassed their score.

Spain faces further competition, with González and Tió set to compete in the mixed duet free final. Tió is also scheduled to participate in additional events throughout the day.
