Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón has been recognized as the best goalkeeper of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an honor announced by FIFA. This prestigious award highlights Simón's exceptional performance throughout the tournament, where he established new benchmarks in goalkeeping.

Simón's record-breaking achievements include maintaining the longest "clean sheet" streak in World Cup history, extending to an impressive 649 minutes. He also set a new record for the most games without conceding a goal in a single World Cup edition, achieving this feat in seven matches. These statistics underscore his consistent reliability and skill in preventing opponents from scoring.

The Spanish national team emerged victorious in the 2026 World Cup, securing a narrow 1-0 win over Argentina in extra time. Spain's defense, anchored by Simón, proved exceptionally strong, allowing only a single goal across their eight matches. This solitary goal was conceded during their quarter-final clash against Belgium, which they won 2-1.

This marks the second time a Spanish goalkeeper has received this honor, with Iker Casillas previously achieving it in 2010.
