Spanish opposition leader laments Colombia earthquake loss of life

Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the leader of Spain's conservative Popular Party (PP), has expressed profound sorrow for the human toll and destruction wrought by the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck Colombia. The seismic event has resulted in at least 111 fatalities thus far.

Through his social media, Feijóo extended his "affection and solidarity" to all Colombians, particularly the families of the victims, acknowledging their "moments of pain, sadness, and uncertainty."

Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez had also conveyed Spain's support to the Colombian people, stating, "Spain is with Colombia in these very difficult times." His message was shared via a post on X, amplifying a statement previously made by Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares.

Albares confirmed that Spain is monitoring the evolving situation in Colombia and expressed solidarity with the "brotherly people" of Colombia. He assured that Spanish diplomatic services are actively engaged to provide assistance to Spanish nationals within the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued two emergency contact numbers: +57 316 473 3216 and +34 910 001 24.
