Speaker Notifies Election Commission of Subang Parliamentary Seat Vacancy

The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, has officially notified the Election Commission (SPR) of a vacancy in the Subang parliamentary seat. This action comes after the resignation of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Wong Chen, which was submitted and took effect on August 5.

Johari Abdul confirmed that he received Wong Chen's letter of resignation from his membership in the Dewan Rakyat. In accordance with Article 54 (1) of the Federal Constitution, the Speaker has now formally informed the SPR about the vacant Subang parliamentary seat.

As the Honourable Member for Subang, Wong Chen has submitted a letter to resign his membership effective yesterday as a Member of the Dewan Rakyat to me.

The announcement was made during a special parliamentary session where the Royal Commission of Inquiry's report on Lembaga Tabung Haji was presented. Wong Chen himself had confirmed his voluntary resignation as the Member of Parliament for Subang via a Facebook post, sharing the notice he sent to the Speaker dated August 5.
