Special Parliament Session Set for August 11 on Tabung Haji RCI Report

Malaysia's Parliament will convene a special session on August 11 to discuss the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), the country's Hajj savings fund. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed the date, stating that the session received approval from the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Johari Abdul.

The special session is expected to commence at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day. The RCI was established to investigate issues that arose during TH's financial crisis, particularly concerning asset-liability mismatches between 2014 and 2020. Following a period of financial and operational stabilization for TH, the Cabinet recently agreed to declassify and publicly disclose the RCI report.

The report contains 25 recommendations aimed at improving TH's governance and operations. According to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, the TH management has successfully implemented 75% of these recommendations. He noted that the recent announcement of a 3.5% dividend payout for the financial year 2025 is a testament to the institution's improved financial health.

Dr. Zulkifli emphasized that the public disclosure of the RCI report underscores the government's commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance. He stated that the report serves as an opportunity to strengthen TH, ensuring continued confidence from depositors and reinforcing its position as a leader in Hajj management. Over its six decades, TH has played a crucial role in managing the savings and Hajj affairs of millions of Malaysians, establishing itself as an internationally recognized model for Islamic fund management.
