Special Prosecutor Indicts 58, Including Former President Yoon and First Lady Kim, Concluding 180-Day Probe

A special prosecutor's team has wrapped up a 180-day investigation, indicting 58 people, including former President Yoon Suk-yeol and former First Lady Kim Keon-hee. The team announced its final findings on August 23, stating that it would reassign minimal personnel for the prosecution of the cases.

The investigation handled 152 cases, processing 126 of them. This resulted in 9 individuals being indicted and detained, and 51 being indicted without detention. The special prosecutor's team plans to amend the special prosecutor act to allow experienced lawyers among special investigators to participate in the prosecution, and will hire additional specialized investigators to ensure smooth proceedings.

According to the case processing status announced, the team will transfer any remaining unprocessed cases to the National Police Agency as per the special prosecutor act. The investigation's conclusion marks a significant legal development, with further proceedings expected to focus on the prosecution phase.
