Spider-Man Film Pirated Online, Reaching Millions Before Takedown

The film "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which premiered in Taiwan on July 29, has achieved over NT$100 million at the box office. However, the popular movie is now facing a significant challenge from widespread piracy, with a pirated copy circulating online.

According to reports from Deadline and Variety, a pirated version of the film appeared on X (formerly Twitter) on August 1. The illegal upload was available from 6:05 AM to 3:25 PM Taiwan time, during which it garnered over 5.9 million views, 143,000 likes, and 10,000 shares before the post was removed. This incident follows a similar case last week involving a high-definition copy of "The Odyssey," which was illegally uploaded and received 2.1 million views in just 2.5 hours before being taken down and the account banned.

Universal Pictures responded to Variety, stating, "We immediately initiated takedown procedures upon discovering the unauthorized video. We take copyright infringement seriously and will take all appropriate measures to protect our content and intellectual property." The article notes that while studios issue takedown notices to uploaders, the rapid proliferation of pirated copies of popular films makes it difficult to keep pace.
