Sportivo Iteño stuns first-time champion Guaraní in Copa Paraguay

Sportivo Iteño, a team from the Primera División B, pulled off a major upset in the Copa Paraguay by eliminating Guaraní, the tournament's inaugural champion and a first-division club. The "Alfarero" secured a 2-1 victory in Chaco’i, advancing to the top 16 teams in the competition.

Despite fielding a reserve squad, Guaraní, led by Ariel Galeano, dominated possession and created several scoring opportunities in the first half. Félix Llano hit the post, and another chance saw the ball deflected at the last moment. Guaraní eventually broke the deadlock just before halftime when René Rodríguez scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.

However, Sportivo Iteño, managed by Adriano Samaniego, found their equalizer in the second half from a corner kick, with Abel Meza heading the ball past a static Gaspar Servio. Seizing the momentum and exploiting the spaces left by Guaraní's aggressive offense, Sportivo Iteño scored the winning goal. Pablo Benítez fired a shot into the corner of the net, sealing a historic victory for the "Alfarero."
