Sportivo Luqueño secures fourth signing with loan of Alexis Cantero

Sportivo Luqueño has secured the loan signing of Alexis Javier Cantero, a 23-year-old left-back previously registered with Olimpia. The Paraguayan club is preparing for the Clausura 2026 championship, where avoiding relegation is a primary objective.

Cantero, who emerged from the Guaraní academy before joining Olimpia in mid-2025, brings experience from a stint in Russia. He played seven matches for FK Orenburg in the first half of the current year. This acquisition marks Sportivo Luqueño's fourth reinforcement in the current transfer window, following the arrivals of Nicolás Campisi, Miguel Barreto, and Lucas Morales.

Manager Hernán Rodrigo López faces the challenge of a limited squad as the team battles for survival. He has expressed the need for at least a couple more signings to bolster the team's chances. Sportivo Luqueño's Clausura debut is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, against Guaraní at the Deportivo Capiatá stadium.
