Spotify to label AI-generated artists, remove them from recommendations

Spotify is introducing a new feature called "AI Personas" to label music created with artificial intelligence, responding to user complaints. The platform announced on Tuesday that it will no longer include AI-generated music in its algorithmic recommendations. Users have expressed dissatisfaction with profiles that appear human but are actually conceived with the help of machine learning systems.

The "AI Personas" tool will display a specific badge on artist profiles, search results, and playlists starting in September. Spotify has urged AI artists to voluntarily disclose their nature. However, the company stated it will not rely solely on self-declaration, implementing its own criteria to assess the authenticity of these profiles.

Spotify explained its decision by stating, "While we believe all artists have creative freedom to determine how they present themselves, Spotify's programming focuses on promoting the music of authentic artists who are building their careers in music." This move aims to prioritize human artists and address growing concerns about the proliferation of AI-generated content in the music industry.
