Spotify to unveil badge identifying AI music

Spotify is launching a new "AI Persona" badge in mid-September to clearly identify music content produced by artificial intelligence rather than human artists. The streaming giant stated that listeners have expressed dissatisfaction with discovering that an artist profile, which appeared human, was actually AI-generated.

This initiative represents the Swedish company's latest effort to promote transparency regarding the creation of music on its platform. The move comes as the music industry grapples with growing concerns about the proliferation of AI-generated content potentially dominating streaming libraries.

Listeners have been clear in telling us that they don’t like seeing an artist profile that seems human, only to find out that the persona is AI-generated.

Spotify previously introduced its "Verified by Spotify" badge in April, signaling that a profile has undergone review and meets the company's authenticity standards. With the new AI Persona badge, Spotify will also apply these labels to relevant profiles alongside those that self-disclose as AI Personas. The company has also stated that AI-generated music will not be featured in editorial playlists or personalized recommendations, unless a user explicitly chooses to follow an AI Persona.
